What is Endangered Illustrations?

Endangered Illustrations is a passion project developed from my involvement in the University of Delaware's Summer Scholars + Fellowship program. It is a 20-page booklet on 7 illustrated endangered animals to represent and highlight how humans hurt their local environment. My aim for this project was to promote biodiversity awareness by linking to credible organizations specializing in conservation efforts.

Programs used: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Procreate, and Blurb.

16,000+ Endangered Species

As an artist, Endangered illustrations is my response to the critical threat of biodiversity loss caused by human actions. In the last 500 years, human activity has driven 869 species to extinction, with one in four mammals and one in eight birds facing imminent extinction. Through visual storytelling, I aim to raise awareness, evoke empathy, inspire artistry, and create action for conservation. My art aims as a call to preserve biodiversity for the sake of both nature and humanity's future.

Research to Drive Conservation Efforts

At this stage, I researched endangered species, delved into textbooks, sketched up designs, and studied the causes of their decline. Drawing insights from this research, I developed a layout of the pages and a proper cover and chose the 7 animals I would cover based on my findings.

The Result

Finally, I display my booklet for my senior show at the University of Delaware, where hundreds of people could freely flip through the booklet and take a sticker or two home with them. Through this project, I learned the extensive and meticulous amount of details that is creating a well-formated book!

Vision and Goals for Future Conservation Initiatives

In my vision for future conservation initiatives, I aim to broaden the scope of our efforts by including a more comprehensive range of endangered species and diversifying them into separate categories: perhaps making multiple sets of books for Sea animals, Insects, Plants, and more. Additionally, If I were to take this further, I would seek to enhance outreach through various promotional materials (posters, social media, etc) and partnerships with the organizations I researched to maximize our potential to raise awareness!
